NEWARK, NJ – Calcagni & Kanefsky, a litigation and investigations firm in Newark and New York City, welcomes Peter Katz, who joins the firm’s exceptional team of former Federal and State Prosecutors. With deep white-collar experience in New Jersey, New York, and Washington, D.C., Katz represents corporations and individuals in criminal, civil, and regulatory matters initiated by federal and state agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice, Securities Exchange Commission, and state attorneys general.

“Few have the extraordinary breadth of legal experience that Pete has achieved throughout his distinguished public service,” CK Senior Partner Thomas R. Calcagni stated. “As a former Federal Prosecutor in New Jersey, New York, and D.C., as well as a former Manhattan Assistant District Attorney, Pete brings precisely the type of exceptional talent and inside know-how upon which our firm was built. We are thrilled to welcome Pete to the team.”

Katz, a seasoned trial attorney, began his career as a Manhattan Assistant D.A. He more recently served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in both the District of New Jersey and the Eastern District of New York, where he handled matters involving securities fraud, healthcare fraud, and money laundering. In Washington, D.C., as a Trial Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, Katz was assigned the role of Lead Prosecutor in one of the famed Enron prosecutions.

“Pete has earned a reputation as a gifted lawyer and zealous advocate,” CK Senior Partner Eric T. Kanefsky said. “His phenomenal prosecutorial experience on both the federal and local level, and on both sides of the Hudson, provides a comprehensive perspective and real advantage to the corporate and individual clients we represent.”

A frequent lecturer on healthcare compliance and government investigations, Katz also served as an adjunct professor at both Rutgers Law School and Rider University.

“As a boutique firm of former Federal and State Prosecutors, CK has created something extraordinary in the New Jersey – New York legal market,” added Katz. “I’m excited to reconnect with my former colleagues and to be part of this special team.”

Katz earned his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was a Senior Editor of the Comparative Labor Law Journal. He graduated magna cum laude from Union College, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
