CK Prevails for Union City in Employment Law Win

NEWARK, NJ – The CK team delivered a recent federal court victory on behalf of its client, the City of Union City, in a complex employment law matter.

Putting an end to the plaintiff’s serial unsuccessful attempts to expand the scope of her lawsuit and prolong discovery, Counsel Rich Spatola artfully moved for summary judgment on behalf of Union City. Seeing through the plaintiff’s multiple allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation, Rich deftly highlighted the lack of any material factual dispute and demonstrated that Union City was entitled to judgment as a matter of law. A combination of meticulous attention during discovery and a sophisticated understanding of the evidentiary process gave CK the upper hand. Judge Wigenton of the District of New Jersey ultimately agreed with Rich, and this carried the day for the client.

“It can be especially challenging to obtain summary judgment as a defendant when faced with sticky employment law claims and a complicated fact pattern,” said Rich, who regularly handles complex litigation as part of CK’s Employment Litigation and Counseling group. “We’re very honored to represent Union City and happy to achieve this victory on its behalf.”
