Biography

Rich, Counsel with Calcagni & Kanefsky, focuses his practice on corporate investigations and integrity as well as white collar criminal and regulatory defense.  Having litigated at a global Am Law 100 law firm and served as a Senior Attorney and Trust & Compliance Officer with a multinational technology company, Rich has extensive experience navigating complex civil litigation and all manner of internal investigations.

Prior Experience

Before joining Calcagni & Kanefsky, Rich was a Senior Attorney and Trust & Compliance Officer with IBM, guiding the company on compliance-related matters with a focus on anti-bribery and corruption.  Before his in-house role, Rich was Counsel at a global, Am Law 100 law firm, representing companies and individuals in high-stakes criminal, congressional, and regulatory investigations and enforcement matters, internal investigations, and civil litigation.

Rich served as a judicial law clerk for United States District Judge Denis R. Hurley and United States Magistrate Judge A. Kathleen Tomlinson, both in the Eastern District of New York.

Representative Matters

  • Defended over 20 U.S. and global government investigations involving allegations of financial crimes and antitrust violations, leading to declinations, full immunity, non-prosecution agreements, and other favorable settlements.
  • Counseled clients on compliance and control weaknesses and revised policies and procedures to strengthen same.
  • Conducted anti-corruption audits and investigations in high-risk countries and supported other code-of-conduct investigations.

Recognition and Involvement

Rich is the recipient of the 2019 Pro Bono Achievement Award by Sanctuary for Families, a non-profit organization dedicated to aiding victims of domestic violence and their children.  He has been selected by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star for the New York Metropolitan area.  Rich also serves his alma mater as a board member for the St. John’s University School of Law Alumni Association.
