Former Chief at U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey Joins CK; Expansion Includes Three New Litigators

NEWARK, NJ: Calcagni & Kanefsky LLP has again expanded both its White Collar Defense & Investigations and Business Litigation practices with three new litigators, including a former Assistant U.S. Attorney and Chief at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey. Partner Shawn P. Barnes, Counsel Theodore J. Hawkins, and Associate Nicholas Wind are the latest to join CK’s line-up of former federal and state prosecutors and seasoned trial attorneys.
CK’s newest partner, Shawn Barnes, has the wide-ranging government background that distinguishes CK lawyers. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Shawn served as Chief of the OCDETF/Narcotics Unit, overseeing nearly 300 federal investigations and prosecutions involving financial crimes, tax fraud, money laundering, mail and wire fraud, and drug distribution. In his leadership role, Shawn routinely partnered with the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Securities Exchange Commission, and Internal Revenue Service, among other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Shawn also served in the Economic Crimes Unit, where he represented the United States in cases involving securities fraud, insider trading, stock manipulation, and corporate disclosure issues.
Previously, Shawn was an Assistant Prosecutor in Union County, New Jersey, trying over 20 jury trials and serving in the Special Prosecutions/Cyber Crimes, Appellate, Juvenile, Special Victims, and Trial Team/Pre-Disposition Conference Units.

Along with Barnes, CK welcomes Ted Hawkins and Nick Wind. A seasoned litigator for over a decade with experience at several elite firms, Ted focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, healthcare litigation, white collar criminal defense, securities disputes, and investigations. Nick joins CK from a prestigious international law firm where he represented clients in financial and real estate matters.
